This is a fun and memorable get-to-know you activity that mimics the front page of a newspaper. Students fill out a variety of information including their best qualities, hobbies, summer memories, favorites, and predictions for the year ahead.
I use this product with 8th graders, but it can be used for any upper elementary, middle school, or high school grades. It would be especially fun for a history or journalism class, but I use it for English too. It's a great way to get to know your students (and informally assess their writing abilities at the beginning of the year too).
Another fun, bonus use for this product is that students also get to write letters to themselves that I store until the end of the year. I just copy the letter on the back of the gazette page, so it's all together. They love opening them up the last week of school and laughing at what they wrote at the beginning of the year.
