This is all of the assessments I created for my class during our New Nation/Government unit. Because this unit is so detailed, I developed quick checks (I use them as pop quizzes or announced quizzes) along the way. I have also included my final unit assessment.
~ Final Assessment over all standards
~ Constitutional Convention Quick Check
~ Articles of Confederation Quick Check
~ Articles of Confederation 2 (more in depth) Quick Check
~ What do you remember? Quick Check I created to review what they recall from third grade (and what they still need to know in fourth grade) regarding the branches of government, duties of each, Congress, and how the branches keep each other in check.
~ Branches, Constitution, and Bill of Rights Quick Check
~ Branches and Bill of Rights (more in depth) Quick Check
~ War of 1812 Quick Check
*Each assessment comes with an answer key!
In addition to the assessments, I have also included...
~A critical thinking activity on the Bill of Rights (Students choose which amendment they think is most important. Then, they get with a group and try to come to a consensus. Great conversations emerge!)
~Bill of Rights homework chart (Students talk with their parents about each amendment and record highlights on the chart provided. I love getting parents involved and talking with their child about school topics!)
Standards/topics addressed in all assessment and activities:
~Branches of government and duties of each
~Bill of Rights with special focus on first amendment and why it was included, but also includes some of the other more well known amendments and overall general idea of of what the Bill of Rights does
~Constitution-What it is, why it was created, and the Preamble
~Articles of Confederation- Why it was created, the strengths, weaknesses, and what happened to it
~Constitutional Convention- Why they got together, what they discussed (rights, representation (Great Compromise) and slavery), leaders, what they accomplished
~New Jersey and Virginia Plan (Congress-Great Compromise) and the resulting Senate and HOR
~War of 1812- why, what happened during (burning of White House and Capitol and writing of the National Anthem), and the result
I hope you and your class find these as useful as I do! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you or your classroom. Thank you!
