This is a 16 slide, highly animated, power point presentation on the New Seven Wonders of the World – The Ancient City of Petra. Each of the slides are editable so you can modify the slides if you need to.

Ruined cities in remote places have always stirred the human imagination. Before discovery in 1812, Petra was unmarked on modern maps and had been unseen by outsiders for more than 500 years. Located about 115 miles southwest of Amman, Jordan, Petra was an ancient city that was literally carved into red desert cliffs. Its ornate ancient architecture and natural beauty attract people from all over the world. Petra is recognized as one of the “New Seven Wonders of the World”.

Petra's location in the Holy Land of Arabs, Christians, and Jews added enormously to its allure. Some writers identified Petra--with ancient Edom, cursed in the Old Testament for having barred Moses and the Israelites. The site became even more popular when the film "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" was filmed in Petra. Contrary to the plot of the Indiana Jones movie, Petra is not located in a "Canyon of the Crescent Moon" and it is not the location of the Holy Grail.

New discoveries constantly emerge at the hands of archaeologists. Excavators found an immense pool complex near the Great Temple in 1998; in 2000, a Nabataean villa and in 2003, rock-cut tombs under the Treasury. Much is now being done to protect the limestone creations.
