This is a 13 slide, highly animated, power point presentation on the New Seven Wonders of the World – Chichen Itza. Each of the slides are editable so you can modify the slides if you need to.
Chichén Itzá was more than a religious and ceremonial site, it was also a sophisticated urban center and hub of regional trade. But after centuries of prosperity and absorbing influxes of other cultures like the Toltecs, the city met a mysterious end.
The stepped pyramids, temples, columned arcades, and other stone structures of Chichén Itzá were sacred to the Maya and a sophisticated urban center of their empire from 750 to 1200 AD. The incredible complex reveals much about the Maya and Toltec vision of the universe. During the 1400’s people abandoned Chichén Itzá to the jungle. Though they left behind amazing works of architecture and art, the city’s inhabitants left no known record of why they abandoned their homes. Scientists speculate that droughts, exhausted soils, and royal quests for conquest and treasure may have contributed to Chichén Itzá's downfall.
Today Chichén Itzá, is a World Heritage site that also was accorded the honor of being voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. It is now a world renown tourist destination especially during the Spring and Autumn equinoxes where one has the chance to see the incredible shadow serpent of El Castillo—but the often crowded site is absolutely packed at these times.
The presentation covers the following:
Temple of Kukulkan
Decline of the Maya
Theories of Decline
Chichén Itzá's Downfall
