New teachers need to hear "how it really is." I sit down with new people the second day of back-to-school inservice with this handout. I just print off a copy for each and we go over it.
THESE ARE DISCUSSION POINTS. This is not a paper or essay meant to just be read through. The new teachers tend to take notes and ask questions and it always leads to further discussion.
If teachers with only one year of experience want to join this group, I like that, too, because they can add talking points that they have dealt with in the past year. Their real world examples help new teachers out.
This is created in Word, so you can add or take away what you need to. I am in Texas, so I have made reference to a couple of Texas laws and curriculum, but you can just fill in your own state's information.
