This product contains information and activities about explorers during the discovery of the New World. While most of the explorers actually discovered parts of the New World, some of the explorers never reached the New World but helped advance exploration toward discoveries in the New World. Included is a table for students to fill out (with the answers to cut and glue in) organized by country, and showing the dates of their lives and the reasons reasons and results of their explorations. Following this, the explorers are divided by country, with a flag cover for each country. The students can color in the flags or fill them in with construction paper. Each country features explorers in a table, where students can cut and paste in their reasons for exploring and the results of their explorations. Maps of at least some of each explorers' routes are included, and followed by questions for students to answer in order to practice their map skills and learn more about each explorer and his country during that time period.
Explorers covered include Leif Ericksson, Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan, Francisco Pizarro, Hernan Cortez, Prince Henry the Navigator, Vasco de Gama, John Cabot, Henry Hudson, Sir Francis Drake, Jacques Cartier, and Samuel de Champlain.
At the end of the unit, there is a table for students to cut and glue in answers, related to each countries' impact on the Native Americans. The unit is finished off with a 25 item multiple choice test. There is also math activity where students practice their subtraction regrouping of 4 digit numbers in word problems while exploring the lives of most of the explorers. Answer keys are included.
