Product Description
This New Years puzzle activity makes it quick and easy for teachers to provide a hands-on game that meets the needs of all students. Use them for your New Years math centers, return from winter break, stations, games, early or fast finishers, and more. With a no prep option - these are the perfect last minute resource! (Plus you can get them out again at ANY time during the year!)

Let your students practice their multiplication facts with this fun 2018 Shaped Multiplication Math Center Puzzles. They are perfect for New Years math centers! The one puzzle includes the four numbers 2-0-1-8. There are 20 puzzle pieces that have students match 19 different multiplication problems 0x0 through 12x12 facts.

There are two options for the puzzle. One option is the puzzle in its full 2018 shape. The other option is the puzzle pieces separate so students do not know the final shape. These “cut out” sheets are meant to be given directly to the students to cut out and put together so they don't know the shape. These will be more challenging. But they are no prep – just print and go!

An editable PowerPoint file has been included as a center rubric. A full page option and half page option are both included. Print these out for immediate use, or change the wording and format to fit the needs of YOUR students.

This will help address Common Core State Standards 3.OA.C.7

This puzzle is meant to be somewhat of a challenge. Students will have to keep in mind the shape of the number 2018. Tell students to rotate the pieces around until they fit. This is where their critical thinking skills will come into play!

These puzzles are extra challenging because the numbers do not actually connect to one another through any multiplication problems. So students will need to put each of them together. How much direction or how many hints you give to help them complete the final 2018 shape is entirely up to you.

Preparation and Storage: You will need to print off the number of copies you need. (I recommend printing them on cardstock and laminating them.) I have used these as individual work, partner work, and small group work. They also work well for students who finish early or for use during center time. Cut the puzzles out and put them into plastic baggies for students’ use. I put each set in its own plastic baggie. Then I put all of these baggies and one original sheet in a manila envelope with the name of the activity on the front. This way I have the answer key and all materials readily available.

If you want the students to do the cutting – simply print out the “pre cut” puzzles and hand one sheet to each child. Easy. Done! NO PREP!

Directions to Play: Give students the cut-up puzzle sheet. Tell them they need to put the new years puzzle back together. You can also give them the hint (because I have found some do not figure this out!) that the number representing the year needs to be fully formed when they are done.

Correcting Student Work: To easily check a student’s completed work, keep an original copy of the puzzle sheet they are working on. This way you can immediately check to see if the shape is correct and that all the center pieces are in the correct order.

These New Years Multiplication Math center Puzzles are great for new year's math centers, review, early and fast finishers, enrichment, GATE (gifted and talented education), and critical thinking skills. Students with special needs also do well with these once they understand the concept. Any student that needs a lesson in perseverance will benefit from these puzzles. With this fun game format your students will stay engaged while practicing necessary skills!

Just print and quickly cut on the lines and you have instant new years math centers that make skill practice fun and engaging.

One puzzle for each year 2018-2025 will be included in this download when it’s all done. At this time, it just includes 2018. Turn on your TpT email notifications so you know when I post updates (or check your “My Purchases” tab).
