This New Year's activity is the perfect way to incorporate reading and writing into your instruction with a fun theme. Your students will read two passages about two very different upper elementary students who have set goals for themselves. One student sets a lofty New Year's Resolution, while the other character sees success when he determines one word that will guide his year. After reading these passages, your students can compare and contrast the passages using your choice of graphic organizers. They can also select a word to determine the course of their school year using a writing prompt and quick activity.
