Here are 2 tried and true writing activities to ease your way back into writing after the Christmas break. No prep required!
The first activity is a twist on the Fact or Fiction game. Students write about 2 of their New Year's goals (facts), and make up a third one that is not true (fiction).
The kids love guessing which is the “fiction”, and after brainstorming a few more examples as a group, the ideas flow! Once they’ve written their goals, the fun begins as students share their goals and guess which one is the fiction.
It's 2020 is a fun and easy poetry frame that gets kids writing, as well as thinking about their goals for the New Year. The students enjoy the ease of making silly rhyming words just by adding the letter “l” to the beginning of a word.
Example: It’s 2020, la la looks.
This is the year I’ll read more books.
