In this activity, students are asked to choose one New Year's resolution, write about why they chose it and list three things they can do to help meet this resolution.
The first sheet is a scaffolding of the essay so the students can organize their writing.
The next sheet is a rubric that can be used to grade the final product.
The last sheet is a blank face with a blank party hat on. Students can decorate the face to look like themselves and the hat to relate to what they wrote about. For example: if the student wants to save money, their hat might be green with money signs on it.
Have students complete the scaffolding of the essay as a rough draft, then have them write their final product on a lined piece of paper.
Decorate the face and the hat and cut it out. Glue the face to the top of the final copy lined sheet of paper! These make great displays and lead to good discussions about realistic goal setting.
