New Year's Resolutions in Google Slides™ presentation is a great way to get your students engaged in creative writing. The final slideshow can be turned into a digital book that you can embed on your class blog/website and/or emailed to parents. The slides are set to print on 8.5x11 paper for you to print and bind together if you would rather have a hard copy.
Two different slides are included for you to choose from for your digital book:
•Slide with clipart of child with New Year's Hat (students just add their text)
•Slide with a text box and a blank black box. They will take a selfie, crop to an oval shape (directions included)
, place their selfie in the middle of the black box, add and decorate a New Year's hat using the shapes tool (video directions included)
and type a paragraph about their resolution.
Once you decide which slide you would like for students to use, delete the one you do not want and duplicate the one that stays. Duplicate a copy for each child in your class. (directions included)
Assign each student a slide.
Each slide contains directions in the comments.
Four slides are included for the teacher that contain:
•directions for adding a selfie and cropping to an oval shape
•how to embed slideshow on blog/website
•YouTube Video embedded that contains directions for hat creation
Digital writing is wonderful for a variety of reasons.
First, teachers don't have to cart a class set of journals back and forth from school to home. Instead, sign into your Google account and read from anywhere, even when you are on the go! Another great reason is that you can comment on students' writing without "marking up" their paper. I like for students to engage in digital writing because they can color code specific words by changing the color of font. Ex. Descriptive words=red, Verbs=green, Vocabulary Words=blue. This is a great visual for the editing process. Students can quickly and easily edit their writing without having to rewrite their entire paper.
This product comes as a link in a PDF file. First, make sure you are signed into your Google™ account. Click on the link and you will be prompted to "Make a Copy". Rename the file to whatever you would like. It will be sent directly to your drive! Disperse to your students via Google Classroom™, Google Drive™ Shared folder, your Learning Platform, etc..
Since this product is intended to be a collaborative presentation, students will need to access the SAME link and not make a copy. However, if you would rather them work on their own, delete the extra slides and distribute however you wish!
