PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Newitt Level 2 Prereading Series contains four books designed for learning how to read. Each book has 10 lessons of 24 pages illustrated in color.

Level 2 Books
1. Generate Rhymes
2. Identify Actions & Locations
3. Identify Syllables
4. Understand Descriptive Words

In Level 2, the child will
• generate rhymes and distinguish rhymes from non-rhymes,
• identify syllables in two-syllable words read aloud,
• identify actions and locations using familiar and new vocabulary, and
• understand descriptive words modifying familiar and new vocabulary.

First Book: Generate Rhymes

This book builds oral vocabulary and phonological awareness by recognizing and generating rhymes.

In Lessons 1–5, the child will
• preview two pairs of rhyming words,
• identify which two words rhyme,
• distinguish rhymes from non-rhymes, and
• trace color-coded rhyming words.

In Lessons 6–10, the child will
• preview two groups of three rhyming words,
• identify which three words rhyme,
• distinguish rhymes from non-rhymes, and
• trace color-coded rhyming words.

Second Book: Identify Actions & Locations

The book builds oral vocabulary and literal comprehension by identifying actions and locations. In each lesson, the child will
• preview nouns and verbs,
• preview a book cover and inside page,
• read stories and answer questions about actions and locations,
• identify meaning of sentences about actions and locations, and
• trace color-coded verbs.

This book contains 10 lessons of 24 pages illustrated in color. The lessons build oral vocabulary and phonological awareness by identifying, matching, and dividing syllables. In each lesson, the child will
• preview two pairs of same first or last syllable words,
• identify and match same first or last syllables in puzzle pieces,
• distinguish syllables from whole words,
• divide words into syllables, and
• trace words with color-coded syllables.

• read stories and answer questions about contrasting adjectives,
• identify meaning of descriptive sentences, and
• trace color-coded adjectives.
