The Newitt Level 3 Decoding Series contains four books designed for learning how to read. Each book has 10 lessons of 24 pages illustrated in color.

In Level 3, the child will
• identify syllables in one-and two-syllable words by counting the syllables,
• recognize compound words by identifying the smaller words,
• blend onsets and rimes of one-syllable words in lists and in context, and
• identify letters M, S, F, H, T, A, Long A, C, P, L, G, R, E, Long E, D, K, N, V, O, and Long O.

First Book: Identify Syllables 3, Recognize Compound Words

The book builds vocabulary and phonological awareness by counting syllables and smaller words in compound words.

In Lessons 1–5, the child will
• preview related one- and two-syllable words,
• read the words in sentences and puzzle pieces,
• count the number of syllables in each word,
• identify words and sentences,
• answer literal comprehension questions, and
• trace words with color-coded syllables.

In Lessons 6–10, the child will
• preview compound words and their smaller words,
• read the words in sentences and puzzle blocks,
• count the number of smaller words in each word,
• identify and read sight words in phrases and sentences,
• answer literal comprehension questions, and
• trace color-coded compound words.

This book builds oral vocabulary and phonemic awareness by blending onsets and rimes. In each lesson, the child will

• identify and read sight words in phrases and sentences,
• answer literal comprehension questions, and
• trace words with color-coded onsets and rimes.

• read an alliterative story that focuses on the target letter,
• answer literal comprehension questions,
• understand question words,
• identify and distinguish rhyming words (short vowel lesson only),
• identify and name upper- and lowercase letters, and
