In Level 4, the child will
• isolate initial sounds in one-syllable words,
• blend phonemes (sound units) in one-syllable words,
• segment words into phonemes (sound units),
• recognize new words when letters are changed, added, or deleted,
• identify letters J, B, W, Initial I, Short I, Z, Y, Q, X, U, and Short U,
• decode CCVC words (consonant, consonant, vowel, consonant) and other words with initial consonant clusters, and
• decode CVCC words (consonant, vowel, consonant, consonant) and other words with final consonant clusters.

First Book: Isolate Initial Sounds, Blend Phonemes

This book builds vocabulary and phonemic awareness by isolating initial sounds and blending phonemes (sound units). In this book, the child will
• preview letter sounds and words beginning with the letters,
• read the words in sentences,
• isolate and identify the initial sounds in letter blocks (Lessons 1–5),
• isolate and identify phonemes using letter blocks and pictures (Lessons 6–10),
• identify and read sight words in phrases and sentences,
• answer literal comprehension questions, and
• trace color-coded letters and words.

Second Book: Blend Phonemes, Segment Words, Recognize New Words

This book builds vocabulary and phonemic awareness by segmenting words into phonemes and changing phonemes to form new words. In this book, the child will
• preview letter sounds and words beginning with the letters,
• read the words in sentences,
• isolate and identify phonemes using letter blocks and pictures (Lesson 1),
• segment phonemes in words using picture blocks and letters (Lessons 2–5),
• recognize new words by changing letters (Lessons 6–10),
