While learning to read, analyze, and write different styles of news articles, I also had my students read for different purposes and log. Each assignment's directions require students to practice a different skill such as summarize, paraphrase, identify and explain fallacies and slanters. This was created for my 11th grade English classes. I typically assign two to three log entries per week based on the skills we cover in class.
I've included three reflection questions at the end that requires students to consider how the news impacts them.
