This News telling program aims to develop students’ oral language skills while complementing other areas of literacy being taught in the classroom. It links directly to the writing genre of information report texts. Students are required to research an animal and provide different information under each report heading. This form of news telling will reinforce the structure of the information reports and assist the students' in their writing of this genre through lots of oral practice. As with all my news telling planning books, they are meant to be used as a visual cue to students, rather than be directly read from. The plan can include drawings, key words and/or practice sentences to help students remember what to say when they are presenting to the class. Assessment rubrics have been included in the planning book so parents can monitor how their child is going each week and what they need to focus on next. A variety of layouts have been provided to differentiate the content and requirements for students of different abilities.
