This newsletter uses two images- a first day cover for William Jennings Bryan, and a ticket for admission to the 1900 Democratic Party national convention- to help students engage with the workings of a political convention. How are nominees selected? Who gets to vote? Who gets to attend the convention? Does a vote in the primary elections really make an impact? Information gathered from the first day cover will help introduce students to the "Great Commoner" who was known for his oratorical skills and who used symbols from his religious beliefs to connect with the audience.
