This newsletter reminds teacher of the importance of images to help students remember facts. By using the images found on first day covers - envelopes with commemorative stamp, appropriate postmark and artwork, students are engages using their social studies skills.
They collect the facts then analyze, draw conclusions, make generalizations, compare, Then "open the envelope" and out comes another primary source such as a letter or document, photograph or painting that will confirm and deny their findings. Students learn by exploring. Use this envelopes to teach them how to analyze a first day cover. Print off the newsletter and put on the bulletin board, or use with students in a group work setting.
