Who says book reports have to be boring? This project keeps students engaged and provides an opportunity to showcase many different skills.
This assignment guides students through the process of creating a six-part newspaper. Students are required to write a breaking news story, an additional news story, an advice column, an editorial, a crossword puzzle, and three classified ads. This variety of required writing allows students to gain more experience with several writing styles. This project is also great because it encourages both critical and creative thinking.
There are three parts to this assignment:
1. DIRECTIONS: clear and concise directions provide everything students need to complete the project independently. Short examples are also provided, for extra clarity.
2. WRITING GUIDE: a writing guide uses guiding questions and diagrams to help students complete each part of the assignment. This helps to ensure that students include all necessary or important aspects of the project, and it promotes more thorough thinking.
3. RUBRIC: an easy-to-use rubric is included. The rubric grades the project out of 100 points.
