This is a great activity to use to reinforce author's purpose with your students. They will search through newspapers (provided by you) to find articles that were written to persuade, inform, and entertain. Students will cut out the articles and glue them to a page before explaining how they know the author's purpose for writing that article.
Two kinds of pages are included to help differentiate instruction. For students needing more support, there are pages that list the characteristics of each purpose for them to check off. For students needing less support, there is a page where they explain their thinking on their own.
I love this activity because students are using authentic texts to find the author's purpose. It really makes them think!
