These highly structured activities, worksheets and reading materials are designed to teach students about the features of newspaper reports by making the reading and writing of newspaper reports accessible for students - particularly students with low literacy levels.
Activity 1- Students engage in reading and begin to understand the elements of newspaper reports by identifying the elements of the report.
Activity 2- Students engage in reading by reading a longer emotive fictitious report 'WW3' and identifying the elements.
Activity 3- Students engage in writing newspaper reports by filling in the gaps on a template.
Activity 4-Students develop their understanding of the purpose, structure and form of newspaper reports by engaging in Word processing activities to publish drafts based on templates. More capable students are encouraged to invent their own reports.
