This engaging mini-unit is designed to help young scientists develop a conceptual understanding of Newton's laws of motion. Each law is developed through an inquiry activity. Included in this mini unit:
Activity 1: Marble Curling: Students investigate Newton’s first law of motion with this fun cooperative game. Game board templates included.
Activity 2: Cars and Ramps: To investigate Newton’s second law of motion, students explore how mass impacts the distance cars travel down a ramp.
Activity 3: Balloon Rockets: Students investigate Newton’s third law of motion by launching balloon rockets.
Activity 4: Strawkets: Students apply their knowledge of Newton’s Laws of Motion to engineer strawkets.
Mini Posters of each of Newton’s Laws of Motion are included in kid lingo.
A matching activity to held students identify the different laws of motion culminates this mini unit.
Appropriate for Grades 4-7. Aligned to current science standards.
