Introduce and teach your students about Newton's 2nd law of motion with this force and motion worksheet and digital distance learning lesson. Students will use the informative text to read and answer questions about Newton's second law of motion; force = mass x acceleration. In addition, they will practice this concept using the word problem and illustration sheet provided.

Students will learn:

  • Newton's Second Law of Motion: The acceleration of an object as produced by a net force is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force, in the same direction as the net force, and inversely proportional to the mass of the object.
  • How to find the force, mass, or acceleration of an object.

This lesson includes:

  • Teacher information to easily distribute the digital portion to your students through your learning management system such as Google Classroom, Schoology, etc.
  • A two-page informative text that details the law with checkpoint and overall comprehension questions
  • A Google Slide version of the text
  • A three-page word problem packet that will review force, mass, acceleration, and practice using the equation F = M x A. Questions will include illustration examples of different types of force for students to interpret. They include balanced and unbalanced, working together or against one another.
  • An answer key

This activity will get students thinking about Newton's second law of motion. You can have students work independently, in pairs, groups, or teach this as a whole class. Or you could even use it as a homework assignment! It is up to you to determine the levels of your students.
