This product is a virus simulation lab. Students will "infect" one another by swapping "bodily fluid" One fluid has been infected with The Mumps! (sodium hydroxide). Students will be able to actively engage in this lab by walking around "swapping fluids" with classmates!
This is a fun, active lab that your students will remember for years! Students are asked to make a claim at the beginning of the lab and support their claim with evidence they collected during the lab. The relevance of this lab leads you into great discussions about the current mumps outbreaks across the US and why vaccines are important.
I use this lab in my 9-10 grade Biology but it could easily be adapted for earlier or higher grade levels. It is the second lab of my Bacteria and Virus Unit. You can find Next Generation Science Lab: How Gross is your Phone
in my store.
I use my NGSS Claim and Reasoning Write Like A Scientist
format to write the conclusion statements at the end of the lab. You can find that resource in my store!
