Next Steps Checklist is a writing checklist for kindergarten kids, to reflect on and assess their own work. Written in simple language with pictures, it’s perfect for a kindergarten writing notebook or writing folder.
Kids may check off the items they can do well. They should note their “Next Steps” and use them to improve their writing independently as they work.
Next Steps Checklist for kindergarten has two versions: beginning and advanced (with more words and no pictures).
Use the large-sized Next Steps writing checklists, printed or with the PDF opened on a SMARTboard or computer, to review expectations at the beginning and end of a lesson.
You will have to train students to be honest. Emphasize that everyone has room for improvement. It’s a sign of maturity to reflect about your growth so far, and your next steps.
• Writing assignments: Glue the Next Steps checklist into kids’ writing notebooks or place in folders so they may review their own “next steps.”
• Learning Centers: Post the large-sized Next Steps checklist at the writing center for easy reference.
• Homework: Send the Next Steps checklist home, to help parents and kids assess, revise or edit homework.
• Whole Class review: Open the Next Steps checklist PDF on your Smartboard to review expectations.
