A half-sheet of paper with a picture box and 2 handwriting lines. The picture box has a caption within it saying, "Next time I will. . ." Use this form as part of your conflict resolution or behavior management.
Ask children to tell you what was the wrong choice that they made and ask what they should do next time instead. Have them draw a picture and write a sentence about the good choice that they will make next time. This helps children to understand that they can change the choices that they make and practice appropriate responses to the challenges that they face. Using the "Next time" philosophy is a positive approach as well as a natural consequence for many behaviors that helps children understand expectations of them and reinforce positive behaviors instead of negative.
For younger children, they can just draw the picture after talking to you, and you can write the sentence about what you have agreed that they will do next time. Older children can complete the form on their own.
