are for children who have a limited sound repertoire due to apraxia of speech, a speech-sound disorder, or a language delay. Use the PowerPoint slides and present the stories to an entire class on an interactive whiteboard or use on another device with an individual or small group. Use choral reading, taking turns between the “teacher” and the student or class. The teacher speaks the longer utterances and the student(s) produces the words highlighted in RED.
The words highlighted in RED target early developing sounds in consonant-vowel (CV), vowel-consonant (VC) and/or consonant-vowel-consonant syllable combinations (CVC). The stories are repetitive in nature to allow the repeated practice of targeted words during one session. You may want your students to practice the targeted words before presenting the story.
Present one story over several weeks so your students will become very familiar with the words. Once your students are able to produce the words with prompts and cues send the handout home as homework for extra practice. You may also share a digital copy to parents as homework.
