Night: Complete Quiz Bundle
This download contains one quiz over the all of the sections of Wiesel's novel, Night. The quizzes contains eight to nine questions . The format of the questions is short answer and fill in the blank. The questions are designed to ensure that the students read the passage and retained what they read. These questions are strictly reading comprehension questions. An answer key has been provided. This quiz took my students roughly 5-7 minutes to complete.
This was a good, quick assessment of what my students retained during their reading time and was a good indication of what elements of the story I needed to review with them
Night Irony Chart
This assignment directs the students to look for irony within Elie Wiesel's Night The students are tasked with identifying examples of dramatic irony, situational irony, and verbal irony within the story. The directions provide a detailed example.
I have used this assignment as both an individual assignment and a group assignment. The assignment provides a great discussion over the different types of irony and how to identify them in a text.
Night Anticipation Guide:
This download contains a pre-reading and post-reading assignment for Elie Wiesel's Night. The first page of the assignment contains a graph with ten statements. The statements all deal directly with concepts or ideas that the students will encounter when reading the text. The students must agree or disagree with the statements. They students will then determine whether the novel agrees or disagrees with the statements throughout their reading assignments.
The second page of this download contains five pre-reading questions that ask the students to use their prior knowledge and experiences to answer the questions. These were a great way for my students to link their prior experiences to the text before they even read the text
After they have read the whole novel, they will complete the Post-Reading Writing Assignment.
Please note that the teaching duration for this assignment was set at five days. That was the length of time that my students needed to read the entire text from start to finish and complete the post-reading assignment. Filling out the initial anticipation guide only took my students about ten minutes.
Night Tic Tac Toe Mastery Assessment:

Five quotes have been selected from the story. The students are asked 2-3 questions that cause them to analyze the quote in order to answer the questions. The students will need to use evidence from the quote in their responses.
I have used this as a group assignment and an individual assignment. It also makes for a great class discussion starter once the quotes have been analyzed.
Night: Vocabulary Workbook
This download contains a seven page workbook over Night.
The students are asked to define twenty vocabulary words from the text, write original sentences using the words, provide synonyms and antonyms for the words, and answer questions about the author's word choice. The workbook can be completed all at once or divided up over a period of days for routine vocabulary practice. My students completed this workbook in three days.
This workbook is a great way to introduce twenty higher level vocabulary words to your students and create a lesson in which the students will increase their personal vocabulary. The words selected for this workbook are also commonly used PSAT and SAT words.
