This page highlights the literary brillance of the Quran. I quote a verse where Allah SWT says that He "throws the veil" of light over Earth. It is a simple scientific concept, yet the language used is so beautiful.
This is a "teaching moment" where we can discuss what is a metaphor. A metaphor is not always a simile -- where the word "as" or "like" is being used. Rather, this is a metaphor where light is compared to another object by calling light "a veil".
First, on this worksheet, we ask our students to consider how light is similar to a cloth that has been draped. Then we ask the class to give their own examples of metaphors.
