I use this power point throughout the novel, Night, by Elie Wiesel. The first series of slides I use prior to reading and they introduce the topics of WWII, concentration camps, ghettos and Nuremburg Laws with pictures and text. I include biographical information about Wiesel while in the camps and post-war in the second set of slides. Additionally, there are slides describing the main characters of the book, the idea of the conflict triangle and description of Jewish holidays and traditions discussed in the book. As we read, I refer to the several slides discussing themes, tone, conflict and motif in the novel with discussion questions to match.
The final section of slides is a mini-poetry analysis I use with the students to match the themes, symbolism and tone of the book. There is dissection of William Blake's The Tyger and The Lamb and several other Holocaust poems. The final slide is a rubric for a Holocaust mini-poetry lesson I created.
