This written assessment covers the events from pages 1 - 39 of Night by Elie Wiesel. The skill focus is on making text connections and distinctions (comparing and contrasting), using Common Core Standard: R.I.8.3: Analyze how a text makes connections among and distinctions between individuals, ideas, or events (i.e., through comparisons, analogies, or categories).
In this assessment, students will analyze two excerpts from the first part of Wiesel's memoir to evaluate the the treatment of two different characters (Moishe and Mrs. Schacter).
Assessment includes a brief area for planning, a page for writing the response, and a page including a 3 point rubric (similar to many state exam writing rubrics), scoring guide, and reflection area. Students will give themselves a grade, as well as receive a peer and teacher grade.
