"Night of the Twisters" by Ivy Ruckman is a high-interest, fast-paced novel that appeals to a wide variety of students. Changing the way you teach a novel can be a challenge but not with this reading response unit by the Classroom Fairy. Focus on important events and details, major/minor characters and settings along with vocabulary that will stay with students, a comprehensive test and creative and unique projects. You will find materials that will guide your discussions and let students have the opportunity to break out of the book report and read and answer comprehension questions rut. This is hands-down a favorite with my students and is full of activities that keep them engaged and make this a memorable novel study.
Here's a closer look at what is included:
Major/minor character and setting chart
Important events and details chart broken down by chapter
Novel vocabulary that will enhance understanding
Emergency Kit project directions, rubric and examples
Map project directions, rubric and examples
Answer keys for all activities
I know this will be a novel unit your students will have "twisted" into their memories! If you have any questions or would like more guidance for incorporating this into your classroom, please feel free to contact me. Get ready for some great discussions!
