Design a Book Jacket for a Biography
One of the best ways to learn about historical figures is by reading biographies. Your students are going to design the book jacket of a historical figure’s biography. A book jacket includes the front cover, spine and back cover of the book. This is a project that gives your students the opportunity to be creative, but their writing must be based on historical evidence. The product includes an explanation and list of specific requirements and topics and a rubric.
Historical Figures: Four Projects
Your students can choose to create a movie trailer, scrapbook, farewell speech or illustrated epic poem about a historical figure. Each project choice comes with an introduction and a description of requirements. My students absolutely loved completing this project since they had choice and room for creativity. I loved assigning this project since they incorporated historical evidence and practiced their critical thinking skills. The product includes an explanation and list of requirements for each project and four rubrics.
Create a Board
This project is a really fun and creative way for students to show off what they learned about the historical figure. Students will create the rules and directions for the game, create the required pieces, and create a colorful and detailed board game. The product includes step-by-step directions, requirements, ideas, required content topics and a rubric.
A Historical Figure: Hero or Villain
Student will research a historical figure and then determine if he should be viewed as a villain or a hero. For their projects, students can work independently or collaboratively. Their project choices include a poster or a dialogue. If students choose to complete the poster, they will include a combination of writing and original illustrations to represent the historical figure as a hero and villain. If they complete the dialogue, then they will write a detailed and interesting conversation between two people, one who views the historical figure as a hero and the other who views him as a villain. The product includes an explanation and list of requirements for the poster and dialogue, a two-page note-taking and planning guide and two rubrics.
Talk Show: Historical Figures
This project is a favorite among students! Your students will work in groups of four to plan and present the talk show. The student talk show will include the host and three guests. One student will represent the host and the three remaining students should each choose to represent a historical figure they’re studying. Your students will improve upon skills such as public speaking, collaboration, writing and research. The product includes an introduction, a detailed explanation of the structure of the talk show and a rubric.

Students will include ten significant events from the time period. The product includes specific and clear requirements and a rubric.
Report Card of a Historical Figure
For the past several years of your students' life, dozens of teachers have graded them on quizzes, projects, assignments, essays, participation, effort, conduct and more. Now, it’s your students' turn to be in control and to grade others. Their task is to evaluate the effectiveness of the historical figure by creating a report card. The report card will contain a letter grade and a corresponding paragraph describing the performance of the historical figure on several possible categories. The product includes the direction sheet, rubric and ideas for successful topic and concluding sentences.
