Close reading is great, but what about those leveled readers that you can't write on? I love post-its, but I hated going through these books and taking them out once we were finished. Plus, they ripped the pages on a few occasions. Enter---Ninja Notes! These note pages were designed with question stems taken directly from the Common Core standards for 3rd Grade ELA. Each page has a standard of focus so that you can target your kids, even when they are not in front of you!
You could use these to guide reading groups (and I would to first teach them). Students could work on these independently with their leveled readers during Read to Self, Read to Someone, or they could be used as a center.
Directions for Use:
1) Print and laminate or put in sheet protectors- This way, you do not have to reprint every time you teach that standard. Better yet, print different standard on different colors of paper:)
2) Gather your 3"x3" sticky notes and let the kids go to town jotting down notes as they read! Instead of putting the notes in the books, they'll put them on the Ninja Note page to then be used to guide discussion with partners or in small groups.
