After introducing our first Ninjazac story to our students, some of our boys asked, “When are you writing the next one, Mr. and Mrs. Malone?” and “What’s Ninjazac going to do next??” The girls in our classes said that they liked the story, but the boys went wild for it! They have been keeping it in their book bins to read at Daily 5 time, and have been reading it to their friends! It’s always exciting to see our most reluctant, hesitant ninjas want to read more! We hope that the boys that you work with will love reading and demonstrate as much progress as our little ninjas have. This truly did help them to transition from reading emergent text to being successful independent readers!
This Ninjazac 2 pack includes:
**An original 21 page story, Ninjazac, with a colored cover including the picture of Ninjazac and his dog Star that we designed, easy to read print and room for students to illustrate each page of the story. The story is written using many beginning sight words with a few challenging words to provide opportunities to build sight word knowledge, fluency, and reading strategies. We designed this story to be comprised of 5 easy to read chapters, so that students can find success with learning one chapter at a time. Small successes with each chapter yields great success when your ninjas can read the whole book!
**Six quick lesson descriptions to help provide a sample framework for using the story and follow up pages for six days. We have arranged the lessons sequentially with the suggested follow up pages for easy planning and implementation! All lessons are NO PREP, JUST PRINT!
**An “About Ninjazac” page that describes his unique scar and motivates students to read, AND a “Ninjazac’s Belt page” that students can color to show progress after reading each chapter and reaching that Color level!
**Five different Word Family Phonics pages that include reading and writing opportunities as well as word sorts for each pattern (-ar, -ent, -ind, -ed, & -ell). These coordinate with words found in the chapters so that students can benefit from reading the text and practicing word families that are in the story!
**Fluency phrase activity pages for each chapter where students can practice words and phrases in that chapter to build success (There are five fluency pages.)
**A prediction page where students will complete a prediction in the middle of the story
**A prediction reflection page students can complete to think about their thinking at the story conclusion!
**A Ninja Punctuation Power page where students can write down the correct punctuation, and they can cut out the Ninja Punctuation Power bookmarks to use when reading this story and other stories!
**3 Cause & Effect Pages- The first one is an example page demonstrating cause & effect, the second one provides two opportunities for students to find the “effect” in the Ninjazac 2 story from two things that happened, and the third page is a blank one where students can find more examples of cause and effect in any book that they read!
