This lesson utilizes John Adam's musical "Nixon in China" to explore the historic visit and repercussions which affect modern day America. The lesson plan incorporates a suggested analysis of the piece which is by no means the only correct interpretation. This experience will not only draw in students with an affinity for music, but allow each student the opportunity to think more critically about the subject and form their own opinions. The interdisciplinary nature of the piece make sit suitable for a number of classrooms including World History, US History, Music (in relation to historical significance), and Theatre.
