Throw it in the trash! No Really... Throw "IT" in the trash!
I use this visual to encourage students to use descriptive words when they are in the speech room. I often finds kids using "generic words" when they are completing tasks, such as describing objects, oral narratives, retelling stories, comparing/contrasting, etc.
I laminate the visual and post it on the wall, as I hear students using "generic" words during therapy sessions, I write those words on the visual letting them know there are more "descriptive" words that they should be using.
My students enjoy pretending to "crumple" the generic word up like a piece of paper and pretending to throw it in the trash.
This would be good for writing tasks as well.
