My Book of Teen Numbers is a printable math booklet that introduces children to their teen numbers from 11 to 20. The booklet is perfect for practising and representing numbers in different ways. This allows the children to practise working with numbers and effectively develops their number sense. This math booklet is a great activity to use with children in small groups for a math center, as a whole class or peer tutoring.

Use as a class warm up activity to introduce the numbers in order from 11 through to 20. Tracing the number in numerals and in words, counting objects on the page through color, drawing groups of objects, identifying the number in words, showing the number using tally marks, tens and ones using a tens frame and recognising the number before and after. Extend the activity further allowing students to explore with concrete materials to further show the number using a lightbox with Lego, counters, paddle pop sticks, playdoh, unifix cubes, or using beads on a piece of string.

The numbers from 11 to 19 are composed of a ten and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones.
10 can be thought of as a bundle of ten ones - called a “ten.”
Understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones. Understand the following as special cases:
Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.
