Tablero de Opciones, a choice-based product provides the focus students need to overcome the intimidating task of producing in the target language.

THE PERSPECTIVE: We are excited to incorporate student choice in our classrooms. We also believe in allowing students the opportunity to evaluate their own abilities and to decide where they need to improve. The idea of recording the questions came when we realized our first classes of the day got a sympathetic teacher listener while the end of the day classes got a “let’s just get this done” audience of one.

THE PRACTICE: We incorporate the idea of asking students to show their L2 ♥ by dedicating focused practice in the listening and speaking domains to master these essential skills

THE PRODUCT: Students receive an electronic document with links to questions recorded by native speakers. ¡A Charlar! Tablero de Opciones, which we have used as the speaking portion of the Spanish I midterm, is the beginning of a product line we are developing this year. Please note that the introductory price is good until the end of January 2018.

¡A Charlar! Tablero de Opciones, lovingly encased as a zip file containing 23 different artifacts, has been formatted as a .pdf for format integrity as well .pptx and docx to be edited and includes the following:

• The National Standards for Foreign Language Learning for this task
• A visually stimulating, slide presentation with margin notes that guides the teacher in delivery
• A mini-poster: “Quien no se aventura, no pasa la mar”” to begin familiarizing students with Spanish sayings they may use later in their speaking and their writing
• 10 classroom-tested suggestions for incorporating this product to your particular situation
• 3 differentiated electronic documents with I-can statements to share with students via your preferred portal
• links to 16 questions recorded by native speakers, male and female.
• A photo showing a teacher projecting the choice board to the class.
• A video showing a group of students practicing the task
• A video showing the 1:1 set up in the classroom and a student preparing and performing the task
• A document to print or share electronically to keep students accountable of what they have practiced/perfected
• A document of useful words and expressions to encourage students towards elaboration.
• A suggested rubric to print or share electronically
• 3 sets of playing cards to print, laminate and use to determine which questions are to be answered
