My students are never so engaged as when they are asked to watch movie clips! In this activity they are asked to analyze different movie trailers for their theme. Movie trailers are the perfect tool for this, because they give a quick overview of a long story.
This print and go activity includes a mini-poster explaining theme (for a theme review or mini-lesson), notebook friendly fill-in-the-blank notes based on the poster, a recording sheet, and six possible movie trailers with links and answers. You will need a way for students to watch the movie trailers. I have included YouTube links for the trailers provided.
This movie trailer theme activity would be great to complete as a class, in small groups, or as individual activity for a technology station.
The students are asked to record the title of the movie, what they saw happen, what they believe the theme to be, and why they believe that is the theme. The last two columns would work as a sentence starter for further work on theme as it is in the format "I think the theme is.... because in the clip I saw..."
This activity is no prep and ready to go. It is highly adaptable based on which movie trailers you would like to use and how much support you want to provide students.
