Are you teaching author’s purpose? I have found it’s hard to find comprehensive activities for students while trying to learn this skill. So, I created these for my classroom for extra practice for my students. These activities will challenge your students as well as teach them the skill of understanding author’s purpose of a piece of writing. These are great for in-class work, homework, or for small groups.
One activity has short statements and students identify what the author’s purpose is, inform, entertain, or persuade. The other activities have longer paragraphs for them to read and find out what the author is trying to say. Some activities will have the students explain their answer. This will make them think and use the content to explain their answer. I find that if a student has to explain their answer it helps them to understand it better.
