In order to promote fluency, I illustrated this little robot character in hopes that my students would find him charming, but not want to read like him. Having questions on the front helps students reflect when reading out loud.
I copy the sheet of bookmarks onto cardstock and use a paper cutter to slice four individual bookmarks. One of the first-week-of-school activities is to have students decorate the back of their bookmarks with name, date, and room number. Bookmarks are then run through the laminator, used all year, and taken home as a memento.
