Product Description
This 3-page document is to be used at the end of the novel, Esperanza Rising, by Pam Munoz Ryan. One page is a chart requiring students to link the specific challenges Esperanza and her family faces to specific human rights. This chart also requires the students to summarize, or "gist", the rights. The other two pages are nearly identical. Each contains a large image of a rose with several thorns. Students must list 4 of the "thorns" or challenges that Esperanza faces, and then write the theme in their own words at the bottom.

A great way to wrap up the novel. We created a "Rose and Thorn" garden in our classroom.

Fonts from Jen Jones at Hello literacy and Just Realize from Kimberly Geswein Fonts. Much thanks!
