This comic strip version of "Y no se lo tragó la tierra", created by one of my talented students (she will receive half of the proceeds), is a great introduction to what transpires in this literary work. Additionally, this pre-reading activity front-loads the students with some important lines and quotes from the characters, bringing the student up to speed on the personalities and their purposes in this famous short-story.
The four page colored comic strip comes with several pictures associated with the story.
This comic strip is used as a scaffolding piece. I use it to create a group discussion around the pertinent themes. Students in our AP Language and other courses (Heritage and 3 Honors) have also utilized this comic strips as a form of preparation, or vertical teaming, for the AP Spanish Literature and Culture class.
Students transition much more effectively into the story because they have a clear visual representation in their mind of the character and the story line.
