Based on the Readers/Writers Workshop structure used in ELA classrooms, this 4-visit Common Core-aligned unit supports the study of Expository Text. Designed for 6th grade students, these Library Lessons follow R/W Workshop structure of Warm-up, Mini-lesson, Readers/Writers Workshop, and Sharing/reflecting.
The unit begins with a Dewey Book Buffet followed by Library Lessons exploring other print & online expository text resources, and ends with an Expository Text Poster project. Lesson activities are engaging for 6g students and scaffolded to give them plenty of practice taking notes from and citing expository resources.
Package contains a Common Core- and AASL-aligned lesson plan with complete support documents for each lesson including 3 worksheets, a 10-slide presentation on Academic Honesty & Note-taking with links to short videos (YouTube & Vimeo), and a link & QR code to a prepared Padlet of 2 dozen free-access articles on technology.
This unit can be used as a collaborative set of lessons every other week with ELA, or it can be used as an Information Literacy unit for fixed-schedule classes.
