Based on the Readers/Writers Workshop structure used in ELA classrooms, this 4-visit Common Core-aligned unit supports the study of narrative fiction. Library Lessons begin with a Library orientation during the 2nd week of school followed by 3 new lesson visits every other week.
Lessons follow RWW structure of Warm-up, Mini-lesson, Readers Workshop, and Sharing/reflecting. Lesson activities are engaging for 6g students but short enough to allow plenty of time for them to browse for/choose books and READ during Readers Workshop.
Package contains complete support documents for each lesson, including worksheets, slide presentation, and links to 2 short videos (on both YouTube & Vimeo). Bonus items are Reading Record to paste into RW Notebook and a set of Multicultural & Global book spine labels to help students choose books.
This unit can be used in collaboration with 6g ELA teachers with visits every other week, or it can be used as a Library Information Literacy unit for fixed-schedule classes.
