Product Description
Minimize the time it takes students to find something they want to read by identifying your Fiction books by Subject. This colorful package of book spine labels, shelf labels, and bookcase signs are customized and coordinated for you to use in your Fiction area.

The sheets of 3/4” x 1” book labels are formatted to print on Demco's Spine Label Processing sheets, and the sheets of shelf labels are formatted to print on 1/3 Cut File Folder Label sheets, available at any office supply store. Signs fit on 8-1/2” x 11” letter-size paper, and if you laminate them they are very durable. You can really save money by just printing everything on paper, then cut out and affix to books and shelves with transparent label covers or book tape.

NOTE: I use the term “Subject,” not genre, because I don't want to confuse students: ELA uses the term 'genre' for types of literature (narrative, expository, poetry, drama), not kinds of stories. We tell students to search the online catalog for a certain kind of story 'by Subject' so it makes sense to use that same terminology. Those entries are in the 'Subject' field of the MARC record, which are derived from the LOC standardized Subject Headings for the kind of story--you find it next to 'Subject' in the CIP data on a book's copyright page. Most library stores refer to their labels as Subject Classification Labels. And, let's be honest, do we not refer to the main sections of DDC as Subjects? (Have I convinced you yet to use 'Subject' instead of 'genre'?)
