Use this pin chart to manage noise in your classroom. Teach the students the levels...
Sound check (When we discuss the noise level that is going to be expected and practice)
Teacher voice (For presenting)
Group voice (For working at their tables)
Whisper voice (talking to a partner)
and No voice (silence)
There are also NOISE cards to make magnets out of. I use these for a warning system. It is basically like three strikes and you are out. When they are too loud (during inside recess, centers, writers workshop) I start by taking the E off, then the S, then the I. When "No" is left the pin chart goes to no voice.
