So, you are teaching Grade 5 Social Studies and get to the outcome on examining Non-British, European immigrants in Canada and feel completely lost? I've been there. The resources for this outcome are outdated, hard to follow and challenging to read. So, I created my own.
1. Three pages of easy to understand reading on the history of immigrants from Ukraine, Poland, Russia and Germany. These pages explain why different groups were motivated to move to Canada as well as explain what they excelled at and what challenges they faced coming to a new land.
2. Six thinking questions for students to answer based on the reading that will encourage them to reflect on what they have learned.
3. A three page letter writing assignment where students are given a choice between four people to pretend to be and to write a journal entry from the point of view of that person.
