Product Description
Show students that non-fiction books are NOT boring, that there's more to reference books than dictionaries and encyclopedias, and that there is still a place for print materials in the age of the internet!

In this assignment, students first choose any print reference, how-to, or skill book in the world of ELA. (I have included 30 book recommendations about reading, different types of writing, and speaking!)

Next, students complete a 2-page analysis graphic organizer to identify the book’s text features, purpose, audience, and potential uses; they also evaluate pros and cons of the book and how helpful it is.

Finally, students choose from nine writing prompts to learn, apply, and create based on what they have learned from the book. This step provides accountability for reading, higher-order thinking, and a writing assessment.

This 4-page download includes:
• Directions pages, list of recommendations, and writing prompts
• Graphic organizer/report template
